the interview session was short, around 30 minutes. She was keeping apologizing for her self-perceived poor communication skills. Sure, she is not skilled, like her writing, she sounded raw, but very sincere nevertheless. I was surprised to know her description of her books, how writing "winter pasture" was not easy. The writing in her books, the pure and sense of directness, are all well thought out. It is well-plotted writing (一种经营), it is not easy writing. And it took years for her to arrive to "winter pasture", probably is her peak work.

Also she talked about the style of her writing, non-fictional essays. The "Li Juan" as role in the book, vs herself. She said in her earlier works she was somewhat eager to please, to only disclose the pretty side of "Li Juan". Her initial motivation, the drive for writing was vanity (or ego, who is not?). The readership the followers, gave her strength and more drive to write, to prove her voice. But, as now, she is older, she is not afraid of showing the more true hence maybe uglier side of "Li Juan". She doesn't need be pleasing, she doesn't need to be afraid any more. The world has accepted her voice, now she is at ease, she can speak louder, and in different tones.

I have wanted to become a writer when I grew up, I guess with somewhat similar reason. I had difficulty to communicate verbally with others, and writing provided anther easier channel. Also writing good articles, would bring teachers' praise, so it became one of things I was good at (I am not). In some sense, I have felt Li Juan is *the* writer I would have become if my childhood dream would have become true. And, for some weird reason, I have longer for pasture in remote places from the beginning. And here it is, this younger woman, wrote so well. The stories she wrote, were so good. She was the type of writer I would dreamed myself to be if I had continued that pursue(I would not of course). She is so much braver than me. Her sentences are so precise and well-made. I am a wholesome fan of hers, truly.
