"Buck was content to adore at a distance. He would lie by the hour, eager, alert, at Thornton's feet, looking up into his face, dwelling upon it, studying it, following with keenest interest each fleeting expression, every movement or change of feature. Or, as chance might have it, he would lie farther away, to the side or rear, watching the outlines of the man and the occasional movements of his body. And often, such was the communion in which they lived, the strength of Buck's gaze would draw John Thornton's head around, without speech, his heart shining out of his eyes as Buck's heart shone out."
"and say, sit here. Eat. You will love again the stranger who was your self." -- Derek Walcott

one week after early retirement
Very happy, very relaxed.
But I haven't been able to get lots of things done yet.
This morning, "detoxing" is the word I used. Yes, I am in the process of detoxing from the over worked self. Actually I found I have more nightmares than before. In any case, I am getting more focused, and more solid on the decisions I made so far, for myself.

Quitting, retiring
Yes, I don’t want to stay in the same loop agonizing. Yes it would be depart with lots of money, but I would welcome some joy and authenticity to my life again. Retired will be such a sweet word.
A decision
I didn’t anticipate it is so hard to tell the manager that I would like to quit the job.
But that is what I have wanted to do for so long, so need do this.

a moment
The long reproducing journey had swift turn after figured out the root of issue. The simplicity of figuring the puzzle out, it tasted so sweet.
I felt like that could be a moment I can bookmark or save into my book which marks the turning point how I felt in this new team after 20 months.

My best ski day so far! Unfortunately slope is not on, no record of my average speed and top speed。The whole ski even didn’t close my rings…
I finally feel like a good skier.

in the mood of winter
The fall color is being splendid in the neighborhood.
I have been calculating how many days I could count for the April 15th. This is not a good thing though. But, in a sense I have quit already.
How did I arrive here? At this isolation of not being part of the game, part of the team?
Yes, I am in the deep winter mood.
Gardener
We have been wanting to replace our gardener for a while since he started to come only sporadically. Twelve years ago the monthly fee he didn't change. Only now he only came once a month, which still made his service kind expensive. But, the firing never happened even though we talked about for at least more than one year.
Now, at end of this year, he came and said he need retire. He is firing us instead. Twelve years later, our gardener is much much old, that probably would explain his declined frequency showing up last several years.
Ok, things converge eventually. Sad though.

Taiwan trip
The short six-night trip has come and gone. I am falling more in love with Taiwan.
But, not-great points first:
1) the guide.
I have mixed feeling toward to our local guide/driver. We did get chance to take a lot more 3-person family photos. I liked his food choices, all interesting and different places. But, I assume it is our fault that we didn't communicate well with him with the places we are really interested in visiting. We are not visitors who are only interested in food and taking photos.
Also, the boat trip to see Whale, I got sick and through up all the food, it was not a fun experience.
He planned too little time for the places we really liked, for example, the liyu lake. Some of the places he drove us are totally not interesting to us.
2) why so much food on the street, but seems nothing else?
Maybe it's related to our guide, the places we visited are all food centric. Crowded, noisy, and many many food. Why there is not much other type of stores? I don't like street food that much.
Chengping bookstore is an exception.
From podcast I listened after the trip, there are interesting more clutury places in Taipei, but we need good guide and more time to find it. Also, we missed out on the street perfomers. Hmm, that was sad. I didn't realize the street performers need license and they are very talented. Else, I would have stopped and looked for them in Taipei.
3) the trip is a bit short. But weather is good. I guess Nan is correct to decide to have this trip in November. It seems the only good seasons to visit is Late spring and Fall.
4) I can plan our hotels better next time. Grand Hyatt is nice, but maybe it is too comfortable and distanced us from getting know the city better.
Good things:
Hualian is so beautiful. Hualian city felt like Liyang.
And Taipei felt like Nanjing. The cities in my childhood and youth. They still have those rural feeling and carries the traces from the old days. Unlike mainland cities (of course I haven't been back for long long time), everything there was transformed, old things left behind, new and shiny things built. But new shiny things are not always best. I love the old charm. I love the in-effeciency. I love the solutions which need compromise.
I love traveling just three of us. We haven't done it for a while. It's sweet to travel as family.
It's so nice we have a place like Taiwan.
When I first visited Tokoyo in summer, in the Qian-Chao park, with all the sound of 知了, I was struct with feeling of homesickness then. Taipei definitely gave me the same feeling, even though we haven't got chance to see more of the places yet.
We still need visit the lake where it would swamp with fireflies (萤火虫). And the cherry blossoms.
